Loading the Firebox

Vince Pitelka is shown here carefully packing pottery into the box in the firepit. Pieces of sheet steel are used to shield the pottery from direct flame, and newspaper is placed between the pots to minimize contact between them. When fully loaded, the box will be covered with more sheet metal strips to protect pots from falling bonfire-wood.
